ChatGPT Ads for Medical Spas: Eligibility, Costs & How to Get Started

ChatGPT advertising is giving businesses another way to reach potential customers while they're researching services, comparing options, and making purchasing decisions.

For medical aesthetics clinics, this is particularly interesting. Patients often spend time researching treatments, understanding their options, and comparing providers before booking a consultation.

But healthcare advertising comes with restrictions, and ChatGPT is no exception.

At Healing Path, we've been testing ChatGPT Ads for our own businesses, working through advertiser verification, campaign setup, targeting, creative development, and conversion tracking.

We haven't yet launched a patient-facing ChatGPT campaign for a medical aesthetics clinic. However, we have extensive experience marketing aesthetic services across established advertising platforms, and we've been following how OpenAI's healthcare advertising policies are developing.

Here's what medical spa owners and clinic managers should know about ChatGPT advertising, including eligibility, costs, campaign setup, and the considerations that make advertising medical aesthetics services different from other industries.
‍
‍

Can Medical Spas Advertise on ChatGPT?
‍

Yes, certain medical aesthetics services are eligible for ChatGPT advertising in the United States. However, approval is not automatic.

OpenAI specifically identifies minimally invasive cosmetic procedures as an eligible healthcare advertising category.

This is an important distinction because medical aesthetics includes a wide range of treatments, not all of which fall into the same regulatory or advertising category.

A clinic offering eligible non-surgical cosmetic procedures may have an opportunity to advertise, but its individual treatments, advertising content, landing pages, and business credentials must meet the platform's requirements.

Healthcare advertising outside the United States is generally prohibited under OpenAI's current policies.

For Canadian medical spas, this means that even where ChatGPT Ads Manager is available, patient-facing medical aesthetics campaigns should not be assumed eligible.
‍
‍

Which Medical Aesthetics Treatments May Qualify?
‍

The current policy identifies minimally invasive cosmetic procedures as a category rather than providing an exhaustive list of approved treatments.

Depending on the treatment and the way it is advertised, potential candidates for review could include:

  • Cosmetic neuromodulator injections, such as Botox or Dysport
  • Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers
  • Certain non-surgical skin rejuvenation procedures
  • Chemical peels and other minimally invasive cosmetic services
  • Selected non-surgical aesthetic treatments

These are examples to investigate, not a list of treatments that OpenAI has individually approved.

Treatments involving invasive surgery, high-risk medical procedures, experimental therapies, or unsupported health claims face additional restrictions or prohibitions.

For clinics offering regenerative aesthetics, advanced devices, or newer treatment technologies, we would recommend reviewing the specific procedure before assuming it falls under the permitted cosmetic category.

The same applies to treatment combinations. Just because one service may be eligible doesn't necessarily mean an advertisement promoting several different treatments will be approved.

‍

What Are ChatGPT Ads and How Do They Work?
‍

ChatGPT Ads are sponsored advertisements that appear separately from ChatGPT's responses.

Unlike Google Search Ads, which typically target people entering specific search queries, ChatGPT Ads can use conversational context and other relevance signals to determine which advertisements may be useful.

For medical aesthetics businesses, this creates an opportunity to reach people during a broader research and decision-making process.

However, there are important limits.

OpenAI restricts advertising near sensitive conversations, including personal health discussions. That means clinics should not assume their advertisements will appear whenever someone discusses wrinkles, treatment complications, medical concerns, or personal insecurities.

Advertisers also cannot pay to influence ChatGPT's organic recommendations.

Your advertisement is a separate sponsored placement, not a paid endorsement from ChatGPT.

‍

How to Set Up ChatGPT Ads for a Medical Spa:
‍

The campaign creation process takes place in OpenAI Ads Manager.

Although there are similarities to Google Ads and Meta Ads, there are differences in campaign structure, creative requirements, and how advertisements are matched to relevant users.
‍

1. Create and Verify Your Advertiser Account
‍

The first step is establishing an advertiser account with accurate business information.

You'll need to provide the appropriate legal business details, brand information, and billing information.

For a regulated medical aesthetics business, additional verification or review may be required, including proof of relevant professional licensure.

We recommend preparing the clinic's business details, provider credentials, website information, and a clear list of the services you intend to advertise.

Account verification and campaign approval are separate considerations. A verified business is not automatically authorized to promote every treatment it offers.
‍

2. Choose Your Campaign Objective
‍

ChatGPT Ads supports campaign objectives for reach, website traffic, and supported conversion events.

For a medical spa, the eventual objective may be to generate consultation requests or appointment bookings.

However, during an initial test, a clinic may need to begin by understanding whether its advertisements can be approved and whether the platform delivers relevant website traffic.

We would define the desired conversion before launching, even if the initial campaign focuses on clicks.
‍

3. Establish Your Budget
‍

The current minimum average daily campaign budget is $25 USD for accounts billed in US dollars.

At that level, a seven-day test represents approximately $175 USD in budgeted advertising spend.

The platform uses an average daily budget, so actual daily spending can vary.

A minimum-budget test can provide some initial information about ad delivery and engagement, but it may not generate enough data to establish a reliable cost per consultation.

We would generally start with a controlled budget, evaluate the results, and expand only when there is evidence that the campaign is reaching the intended audience.
‍

4. Configure Geographic Targeting
‍

Medical aesthetics is usually a location-dependent business.

A clinic in Dallas, for example, doesn't need to attract inquiries from people living across the United States.

During campaign setup, advertisers can select available geographic targeting options that align with their service area.

We recommend reviewing those settings carefully and monitoring actual website traffic after launch.

A campaign that generates inexpensive clicks from outside the clinic's practical service area isn't necessarily performing well.
‍

5. Create Ad Groups and Context Hints
‍

ChatGPT Ads uses advertiser-provided context hints to help identify relevant advertising opportunities.

These differ from traditional exact-match search keywords.

Instead of relying exclusively on a phrase such as “Botox near me,” an advertiser can describe the clinic, its services, intended audience, and the types of research or decisions for which its offering may be relevant.

For medical aesthetics, these hints should be accurate, specific, and consistent with the services the clinic is permitted to advertise.

They don't guarantee placement beside particular conversations.

Because personal health conversations are subject to advertising restrictions, we would avoid building a strategy around targeting people's insecurities, symptoms, or medical concerns.
‍

6. Write Your Headlines and Descriptions
‍

ChatGPT advertisements use concise headlines and descriptions.

For medical aesthetics, we'd generally recommend focusing on the clinic's services, credentials, consultation process, or relevant differentiators.

For example, a clinic might emphasize its licensed providers, personalized consultations, or range of eligible cosmetic services.

We would avoid language that implies someone needs to correct a physical flaw, promises a particular treatment outcome, or makes unsupported claims about safety or effectiveness.

The objective is to communicate clearly what the clinic offers without using pressure or insecurity-based messaging.
‍

7. Prepare Your Advertising Images
‍

Visual creative is particularly important in medical aesthetics.

ChatGPT Ads uses image assets, and the available format may support either a single image or multiple images.

In our own Ads Manager testing, we've encountered options using one image and formats allowing up to four images.

For a medical spa, we would consider creative such as:

  • Professional photography of the clinic interior
  • Genuine images of licensed practitioners
  • Tasteful consultation or treatment-room imagery
  • Brand-focused photography that accurately represents the business

We would be more cautious with close-up injection imagery, treatment-result comparisons, or visuals designed to draw attention to perceived physical imperfections.

Even when an image is permitted on another advertising platform, that doesn't guarantee approval on ChatGPT.

The advertisement, image, and landing page all need to comply with the applicable policies.
‍

8. Select an Appropriate Landing Page
‍

The landing page should directly support the advertisement.

For example, an advertisement promoting cosmetic consultations should lead to a page that explains the consultation process, the clinic's qualifications, and how someone can request an appointment.

We wouldn't automatically direct every advertisement to the homepage.

A focused service or consultation page can make it easier for visitors to understand the next step.

For medical aesthetics, we'd also review the landing page for unsupported claims, prohibited services, misleading outcomes, and consistency with the advertising creative.

An otherwise acceptable advertisement can still encounter approval problems if its destination page contains restricted content.
‍

9. Install Conversion Tracking
‍

ChatGPT Ads supports conversion tracking through its advertising pixel and supported conversion events.

For medical aesthetics clinics, we'd want to track actions such as consultation requests, completed inquiry forms, or confirmed appointment bookings where technically appropriate.

We would also use UTM parameters and website analytics to compare ChatGPT traffic with other channels.

This matters because clicks alone don't tell us whether the advertising is generating qualified prospective patients.

Ideally, the clinic should be able to connect advertising performance with inquiries and bookings without sending sensitive patient information to advertising platforms.
‍

10. Submit Ads for Review and Evaluate Performance
‍

After campaign setup, advertisements are subject to OpenAI's review process.

For regulated healthcare services, additional scrutiny may apply.

Approval should never be assumed, even when a service appears to fall within an eligible category.

Once a campaign is active, we'd review delivery, impressions, clicks, spending, conversion activity, geographic relevance, and the quality of inquiries generated.

If the campaign isn't producing meaningful results, we'd want to understand whether the issue is targeting, messaging, the landing page, or the suitability of the channel itself.
‍
‍

ChatGPT Ads vs. Google Ads and Meta Ads for Medical Aesthetics:
‍

We don't view ChatGPT advertising as a replacement for the platforms that already support patient acquisition.

Google Ads is particularly useful for reaching people actively searching for specific treatments, clinics, and services in their area.

Meta Ads can support awareness, education, and interest in aesthetic services through visual advertising, subject to its own healthcare advertising restrictions.

ChatGPT Ads introduces a different environment where advertisements can be matched using conversational context and other relevance signals.

Each platform serves a potentially different purpose.

For an established medical spa, we'd generally evaluate ChatGPT as an additional test within the broader marketing strategy rather than diverting the entire advertising budget away from proven channels.
‍
‍

What We've Learned From Testing ChatGPT Ads:
‍

At Healing Path, we've been testing ChatGPT advertising for our own businesses.

That experience has included advertiser verification, campaign setup, creative development, targeting, and conversion measurement.

One of the things we've observed is that generating advertising engagement doesn't necessarily mean generating qualified inquiries.

We've also found that careful geographic targeting and independent website analytics are important when evaluating campaign performance.

These observations come from our own business advertising, not from patient-facing medical aesthetics campaigns.

We're sharing them because we believe they are relevant considerations for clinics exploring a new advertising channel.

‍

Should Your Medical Spa Test ChatGPT Advertising?
‍

Potentially, provided your business and the specific treatments you want to advertise are eligible.

Before recommending a test, we'd consider whether the clinic has a clear offer, appropriate creative, a strong landing page, conversion tracking, and a budget it can comfortably allocate to experimentation.

We'd also want to understand whether the clinic's existing Google and Meta campaigns are performing well.

If there are major problems with current conversion tracking, lead follow-up, or website performance, those may be higher priorities than introducing another advertising channel.

‍

How Healing Path Is Offering ChatGPT Ads During Beta Testing:
‍

We're currently exploring ChatGPT Ads as an additional service for eligible US-based healthcare clients.

For clients already purchasing other marketing services from Healing Path, we're happy to investigate eligibility and, where approved, include ChatGPT Ads setup and management at no additional management fee during our beta-testing period.

Clients remain responsible for advertising spend. Approval, delivery, and results are not guaranteed, and additional work outside an existing agreement may require a separate scope.

Our goal is to understand whether ChatGPT advertising can become a useful part of a medical aesthetics clinic's patient acquisition strategy before recommending it as an established service.

‍

Frequently Asked Questions:
‍

1. Can Botox clinics advertise on ChatGPT?

Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures are an eligible US healthcare advertising category. However, OpenAI does not publish an exhaustive list of individually approved treatments, and eligibility does not guarantee approval of a Botox-related advertisement.
‍

2. Can medspas advertise dermal fillers on ChatGPT?

Certain minimally invasive cosmetic services may qualify for review, but a clinic should confirm whether its specific treatment and advertising materials meet OpenAI's requirements.
‍

3. Can Canadian medical spas advertise on ChatGPT?

Healthcare advertising outside the United States is generally prohibited under current OpenAI policies, even where the advertising platform itself is available.
‍

4. How much does ChatGPT advertising cost for a medical spa?

For accounts billed in US dollars, the current minimum average daily budget is $25 USD. The actual cost of generating consultations will depend on campaign delivery, competition, targeting, and conversion performance.
‍

5. Do ChatGPT Ads require images?

Yes. Ads use image assets, and some available formats support multiple images.
‍

6. Do ChatGPT Ads appear when someone asks about cosmetic treatments?

Not necessarily. ChatGPT restricts advertising in sensitive contexts, including personal health conversations. Advertisers cannot guarantee placement alongside specific questions.
‍

7. Does paying for ChatGPT Ads improve a clinic's organic visibility in ChatGPT?

No. Paid advertisements are separate from ChatGPT's organic answers and do not influence the recommendations it provides.
‍
‍

Final Thoughts
‍

ChatGPT advertising is an emerging opportunity for medical aesthetics clinics, particularly in the United States, where certain minimally invasive cosmetic procedures are included in the current eligibility framework.

However, the opportunity comes with important restrictions, and there isn't yet enough established performance data to assume it will outperform existing advertising channels.

We're interested in testing where it fits, understanding its limitations, and measuring whether it contributes to meaningful patient acquisition.

For clinics already working with Healing Path, we're happy to explore whether a beta test makes sense as part of their existing marketing strategy.
